Finding restaurant reviews and information about local businesses, events and more will be part of a new initiative that starts today.
The Denton Record-Chronicle has partnered with Wimgo to offer a new online method for finding out what's happening in Denton.
Wimgo is a nationwide, hypersocial search directory where local consumers can make decisions about places to go, things to do and much more.
Wimgo interacts with Facebook to allow users to make recommendations about local businesses and allows others to see which places their friends prefer.
Wimgo also allows users to print coupons from local businesses.
Wimgo.com, which originates out of Oklahoma City through The Oklahoman, is replacing DentonMarketplace.com as the online business directory for the Record-Chronicle and DentonRC.com.
"We are excited to partner with Wimgo to enhance our ability to help our local businesses maximize their local business search," said Bill Patterson, publisher and CEO of the Record-Chronicle. "The social media aspects of this online directory are dynamic and will provide our businesses and our users with many enhancements."
The directory will provide category listings for more than 20,000 businesses in Denton County and allow users to interact with other users and businesses. To post reviews or list events on Wimgo, users simply need their Facebook login and password. Readers can find a link to Wimgo on the right-hand side of DentonRC.com.
"The strength of the brands of the Record-Chronicle, DentonRC.com, other niche publications, Facebook and Twitter will provide our businesses the marketing and promotional support to drive users to their listing," he said.
Businesses may enhance their listings for a small monthly fee, Patterson said. And users can find everything they need locally on Wimgo as well as submit events from their clubs, organizations, schools and other community happenings. Calendar information submitted on Wimgo also will be published in the Record-Chronicle.
"Wimgo.com is just one more product that we've added to our portfolio as we extend our reach from print to various digital platforms," Patterson said. "It provides our users and advertising customers a great tool to use for search."
