Are you good at cultivating zucchini? Want to brag about your peaches? Or maybe you can grow a mean green bean and it’s time someone noticed! I’ve got just the event for you: the Denton County Fruit, Vegetable, Herb and Flower Show.

The free contest is open to all Denton County residents and is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, June 16, at the Fire Fighters Memorial Park, on the corner of Carroll and Mulberry streets in Denton.

This is a fun way to see what your fellow gardeners are growing and enjoy a little friendly competition. There are separate divisions for children and adults. Ribbons are given out for the top entries in each class. Cash prizes will be awarded to division champions and winners of the best in show category.

While you anxiously await the judges’ decisions, you can visit the Denton County Farmers Market and purchase some locally grown produce as well as the Denton Community Market, which features artisan products and music. You can also visit the Ask a Master Gardener booth and ask your toughest question — but let’s keep it to gardening topics!

Registration is from 9 to 10 a.m. the day of the show. All the rules and details can be found online at www.dcmga.com.
