If you are in the mood to learn, I’ve got some great news for you. There are upcoming educational events and opportunities throughout Denton County coming up in the next few weeks. Mark these on your calendar and come out to join us.
April 20 will be a busy day with major garden events happening in both Denton and Little Elm. Denton Redbud Festival will have vendors and educational booths including the Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists and many other community organizations brought to you by Keep Denton Beautiful (www.kdb.org). In Little Elm Park, come to the free Water is Life Expo and hear presentations on irrigation, Texas tough plants and rainwater harvesting. Radio personality Howard Garrett will be the featured speaker at 12:45 p.m. For more information, call 972-377-5556.
On April 27, Upper Trinity Regional Water District in Lewisville will conduct a free Water-Wise Gardening Expo with tours of their demonstration garden, educational booths and a class on “Get to Know Your Sprinkler System” from 10 to 11 a.m. To register for the class or for more information, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Preventing an equine disease through a proper vaccination program is safer, easier and cheaper than treating the disease itself. It also will reduce the risk of a quarantine situation. To help defray some of the expense associated with vaccinations and health cost, the Denton County Extension Horse Committee will sponsor a “Low Cost Horse Health Care Clinic” from 8:30 a.m. to noon May 4 at the North Texas Fair Grounds.
Veterinarians will be on-site to administer different vaccination packages at a reduced cost. A farrier will also be available to perform hoof trimming and shoeing at a discounted rate. Clinic sponsors are Absolute Equine Veterinary Service and CAM Forge. A feed nutritionist will also provide complimentary body-condition scoring and a nutritional analysis for all horses brought to the clinic. For more information, call 940-349-2894 or e-mail Pamela.Hill@dentoncounty.com.
Denton County Farmers Market will open the first of May, so be sure to go support your local farmers at the corner of Carroll Boulevard and Sycamore Street in Denton. Market days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to sell out.
And the Denton County Master Gardeners present “Living Green with Style — A Garden Tour” on May 11. This is the group’s annual fundraiser, so buy your tickets in advance to support this great organization and get a peak at some fabulous North Texas home gardens at www.dcmga.com. And in case I have glazed over any details, contact our office for more information at 940-349-2892 or email@example.com.
