Name: Michael A. Upshaw

Occupation: attorney, Upshaw Law Firm

Birth date and place: Aug. 22; Houston

Family: wife, Caroline Booth (age: perfect); sons, Andrew, 5, and Luke, 4.

The one thing I enjoy most about my work is: getting a matter resolved and closing a file.

My business philosophy is: Treat clients the way I would want to be treated. People hire attorneys for results and frank advice — give them what they need.

If I could, I’d be a: record producer.

I’m so sick of: partisanship.

The four guests at my fantasy dinner party would be: David Bowie, Jon Stewart, Hillary or Bill Clinton (but not both) and T-Bone Burnett.

My hobbies are: playing and recording music; reading books about history and philosophy; watching too much television.

The last book I read was: The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss

I wish I knew how to: weld.

My worst habit is: knuckle cracking.

The person I most admire is: my grandmother.

My guilty pleasure is: Blue Bell Ice Cream sandwiches.

I drive a: 2004 Chevy Silverado.

I’d like to be driving a: 2014 Chevy Silverado.

My favorite restaurant is: Morton’s.

I’m happiest when: I’m completely focused on something that I love.

I regret: not spending my youth more frivolously.

If I won the lottery, here’s what I’d do just for me: Build an amazing recording studio with a lot of classic analog gear that is simply too nerdy to expand upon.

If I could change one thing about Denton, it would be: a boutique hotel or two downtown with a good conference center and first-floor dining and retail. Just saying.

When I retire, I plan to: I don’t plan to retire, but a few good sailing vacations sound nice.

Community activities: director, Greater Denton Arts Council; ex officio member of the board of Denton County Young Lawyers Association (past president); past ex officio member of the board of directors of the Denton County Bar Association; and past 35 Denton volunteer.
