Aaron Gray: 4-H members shine this year

Exciting things have been happening in Denton County 4-H and youth development programs, and as winter winds down and spring begins we are seeing the end to the major livestock shows throughout Texas. Denton County 4-H members have truly shined this year! From livestock show awards to livestock judging awards, Denton County 4-H members are seeing great rewards for the hard work they have consistently put in.

March has also seen the excitement for 4-H members involved in the clothing and textile project during the annual Denton County 4-H Fashion and Trashion Show. 4-H members were challenged in their technical skills through clothing construction and their skill in critical buying. The Trashion Show was part of Denton County 4-H’s encouragement to reduce, reuse and recycle as 4-H members created useful articles of clothing through recycling of materials that many would have discarded as trash.

4-H members exhibited their proud accomplishments while walking down a red-carpet runway on March 8. Those members taking home first-place awards will compete at the district level in Dallas on April 5. We wish them the best as they represent Denton County!

So many exciting things are happening in our agriculture and youth programs, and we would like to invite all of Denton County to share in the excitement. We will be having our Livestock Jamboree on April 26 for any youths interested in showing livestock for a 4-H or FFA project.

The Denton County Livestock Jamboree will be at the North Texas Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and youths from all over can learn about what it takes to raise and show livestock. Area and state experts will be on hand to teach the A-B-C’s and 1-2-3’s of show animals.

There is no cost for attendance, and youths and parents will learn alike. Lunch will be provided thanks to our generous sponsors. We hope to see you there!
