I’m a minimalist by nature, but sometimes the right tool or piece of gear can make a real difference in performing a task. Much like a well-fitting pair of shoes can make a run easier, the right garden tool can make your work easier.
Sometimes it’s a matter of knowing which tool to use for the job and when to call in the big guns. This Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m., we are conducting a class on tractor and small farm equipment that is available locally to rent.
We will have demonstrations of the equipment at the Shiloh Field Community Garden. Some of the equipment will be hand-operated, some can be pulled behind a Gator or truck, and other equipment will be designed to use with a small tractor. Equipment will include harrows, plows, discs, seeders and sprayers from Zimmerer Kubota and Home Depot of Denton. Their staff will be on hand to demonstrate and explain the proper use of equipment.
We will also have a presentation titled “Calibration of Equipment,” which covers how to use sprayers properly when applying pesticides or fertilizers. This presentation will be conducted by a familiar face in this area, former County Extension Agent Rebecca Parker. One general continuing education unit is available for those with a pesticide applicator’s license.
The cost is $15 per person and includes refreshments from Sonic. This will be an outdoor field day, so dress for the weather. If you have special needs, please let us know what we can do to accommodate them ahead of the class. To register for the class or for more information, call 940-349-2883 or email email@example.com.
