Close to 7,000 patients across Aubrey, Little Elm, Cross Roads, Pilot Point and Prosper now use the Baylor Emergency Medical Center in Aubrey.
In May 2012, Emerus 24-hour Emergency Room in Aubrey became Baylor Emergency Medical Center through a joint venture between Emerus and Baylor Health Care System.
All 40 Emerus employees were retained in the change-over, and an additional 10 nurses were added for the facility’s inpatient service side.
John Wood, CEO of Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Aubrey, said the joint venture allowed the emergency care facility access to what the Baylor Health Care System had to offer.
“If a transfer is needed, there is a streamlined process for patients if they choose to go to a Baylor facility,” Wood said.
Since becoming Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Aubrey, the center now has eight inpatient beds, allowing patients in Denton County to receive hospital-level care.
In addition to providing emergency medical care, the hospital also added hospice services.
Dr. Randy Park, medical director of Baylor Emergency Medical Center at Aubrey, has been the medical director of the same facility since its inception as the 24-Hour Emergency Room in 2006.
Three years later, the facility took a new name and became Emerus. In 2010, the facility celebrated the opening of the area’s first helipad, providing a place for air ambulances to land.
Park said the facility plans to add primary care services in the future.
Baylor Health Care System is planning to open eight free-standing emergency centers in North Texas, said Jennifer McDowell, senior marketing and public relations consultant with the hospital system.
Earlier this year, Emerus and Baylor Health Care system proposed the construction of a 16,165-square-foot facility with seven exam rooms and eight inpatient beds in Colleyville, according to a city’s March 2013 economic development report.
