Karina Ramírez: At last, Weinberger’s Deli opens its doors

"We are going to unlock the doors and try to hold on to the masses," Mike Wing, general manager of the deli, said Wednesday afternoon.

Wing's team, which includes executive chef Jarrod Berger and 16 other employees, offers Chicago-style sandwiches that include the Wrigley Field (a hot sandwich with turkey, ham, Swiss cheese and mustard) and the Summer (a vegetarian sandwich with Provolone cheese, tomato, balsamic vinegar and assorted veggies). The restaurant also offers breakfast sandwiches, Italian sausages, hot dogs, gyros, soup and chili, desserts and a kids' menu.

When asked about the local celebrity sandwiches Weinberger's is known for, Wing said that concept was on hold for the Denton restaurant - for now.

"I don't want to rush," he said, explaining that he wants to get to know the local "celebrities" better. "I want [the sandwiches] to be just right."

Weinberger's Deli originated with Tom Weinberger, the father of current owner Dan Weinberger, in Chicago in 1952. Dan Weinberger opened the first Texas store in Grapevine, where it has become a staple. Dan grew up around his father's business and later started managing them. The Denton restaurant is the third in Texas; a second exists in Westlake.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.

A couple of changes took place this week at Atrium Medical Center in Corinth, a 60-bed medical facility at 3305 Corinth Parkway.

Alabama-based Medical Properties Trust Inc. acquired the medical center for nearly $23.5 million, according to a news release Wednesday.

An affiliate of Medical Properties and an affiliate of Vibra Healthcare invested an estimated $6.5 million in the joint venture. Vibra Healthcare is a specialty hospital provider with hospital operations and outpatient locations in 12 states including Texas, according to its website.

Vibra Healthcare will manage 51 percent of the operations at the medical facility.

The group of local physicians who have owned and managed the facility since it first opened in 2007 will maintain operational ownership of 49 percent, stated the release.

At a recent Lewisville chamber celebration for Bookkeeper Girl, one of the business's satisfied customers couldn't stop praising the service she received.

Cara Leising, a hotel consultant with National Hospitality Management Group, said Bookkeeper Girl finally helped her take control of her personal and business accounts. Leising said she was finally able to identify where her money was going.

"I have been a client of her for at least three years," Leising said. "She was able to track it right down to $18.31, and that just blew my mind. No one could help me track it that close."

Leising was one of Bookkeeper Girl's guests at the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce event Feb. 14. The chamber was celebrating the new membership of Kim Pollard, owner of the Denton-based bookkeeping business.

Pollard "is a great supporter of the chamber and everyone here," said Matt McCormick, president of the Lewisville chamber.

Bookkeeper Girl has been growing by leaps and bounds since opening in Denton in 2008. The company provides online bookkeeping and payroll services to small business owners and certified public accountants across the country. According to its website, the company is hoping to open offices in Fort Worth, Austin and Abilene within the next year.
