New shop offers vintage items repurposed or made from scrap
Robin “Tricia” Boyd loves the shabby chic style, and Brad Jeffery likes a more finished look when it comes to his furniture.
They are bringing both their styles to The Boyd Girls Vintage Market, the shop they opened on East Oak Street at the beginning of March.
The shop offers vintage items Boyd and Jeffery have repurposed or created from scrap pieces.
“That’s something we’ve tried to do with the shop is offer people a little bit of everything,” said Jeffery, director of sales.
He said they enjoy using their creativity to reinvent the pieces they find.
Their shop, located in an old house just off the Square, has a table made from an old door, old signs on the walls and a small selection of vintage clothing in one of the rooms. Each room offers different finds, whether someone is looking for antiques or an industrial look.
There also is jewelry created by Boyd, who owns the shop.
For the past three years, they have been selling their items across the country at antique fairs.
“We travel all over the place,” said Boyd, who is from Iowa.
Boyd and Jeffery decided to open a shop in Denton to have a more permanent place to keep their items.
“Denton’s got such a great vintage vibe right now,” Boyd said.
Jeffery, who is from Arlington, attended the University of North Texas and that’s how he knew about Denton.
“It’s nice to have our stuff in a spot,” Boyd said.
“And out of the weather,” Jeffery said.
While Boyd spends her time between the shop and at antique fairs, Jeffery still works as a speech pathologist but would like to make the new business his full-time job.
“This is fun and a little less stressful,” he said.
Jeffery and Boyd, who have been friends for about 13 years, met while they were both working at a school.
Boyd said the pair can create custom pieces or offer inspiration to people.
The shop can be used for small parties or photo shoots. Boyd and Jeffery are available to decorate for parties at other locations.
People can also rent items from the shop for parties or photo shoots.
They also accept pieces on consignment.
The shop will have a garden party from 6 to 9 p.m. April 12.
