Karina Ramirez: Bookkeeper Girl opens new location in Abilene

The bookkeeper girl went home to Abilene and opened her fourth business office this month.

“It is kind of a homecoming for me,” said Kim Pollard, CEO of Bookkeeper Girl Inc., an online bookkeeping and payroll firm with its roots in Denton.

Pollard said she learned about bookkeeping in Abilene years back. Her then-boss, Dan Huggins, asked her if she knew Quickbooks, a business accounting software.

“I just replied, if you give me a chance, I will work hard and be dedicated and loyal,” she said.

Years later, she envisioned what would be family business. She started Bookkeeper Girl from her home in Ponder, and a month later had an office location in Denton inside the Texas Building. A year later she opened an office in Dallas and another in Austin in 2011.

The new office is at the First Financial Bank building, 4400 Buffalo Gap Road, in Abilene. She is looking to hire three people at her new office.

“Being here, it brings back a lot of memories of my younger days,” she said.

Continuing with her vision to become America’s bookkeeper, Pollard said she wants to make her business a franchise (when she opens her fifth office), so that other women can start their own businesses.

“I feel our company brings more than bookkeeping services; we are advocates for women and women in business,” she said.
