Personal profile: Steve Dembowski

Name: Stephen “Steve” Robert Dembowski

Occupation: general manager for Target Corp.

Birth date and place: March 16; Toledo, Ohio

Family: wife, April, and daughter, Olivia, 9.

The one thing I enjoy most about my work is: helping people achieve their goals.

My business philosophy is: Be balanced, and keep it simple.

If I could, I’d be a: college football coach.

The four guests at my fantasy dinner party would be: my father and father-in law (both deceased), my daughter, Olivia, and my wife, April.

My hobbies are: spending time with my family, college football (Go ’Bama) and working out.

The last book I read was: (reread) Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memories of Major Dick Winters by Richard D. Winters and Cole C. Kingseed

I wish I knew how to: be more handy around the house — I can’t fix anything.

My worst habit is: My wife would probably say, “Being too hard on myself.” (She’s probably right)

Nobody knows I: started my operations career loading trucks in a warehouse.

The person I most admire is: my father — his unique blend of strength, confidence and kindness.

My guilty pleasure is: spending way too much money going to big college football games.

I drive a: Honda Accord with 120,000 miles.

I’d like to be driving a: Ford F-150 — I’m in Texas!

My favorite restaurant is: Rudy’s Bar-B-Q.

I’m happiest when: I’m with my family — and totally “unplugged” from work.

I regret: not marrying my wife the first time I met her. (Long story — but I had known her 12 years earlier, before we really started dating in 2000.)

If I won the lottery, here’s what I’d do just for me: Retire — and spend all of my time with my family and catching up with some great friends I’ve missed because I’ve moved so much.

If I could change one thing about Denton, it would be: the Interstate 35E traffic flow — yikes. (I know we’re working on it.)

Community activities: Just getting started, but we’re in the process of joining the Denton Chamber of Commerce, participating in the Rotary Club, speaking and engaging with University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University, and doing a lot of volunteering in the area.
