Karina Ramirez: Two local businesses earn recognition

Denton Regional Medical Center and Courtyard by Marriott in Denton were recently recognized with awards.

Denton Regional Medical Center was recognized with the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Bronze Receiving Quality Achievement Award on April 29.

The award was granted to the medical facility for its commitment and success in implementing a high standard of care for heart attack patients, according to a news statement.

Hospitals involved in Mission: Lifeline are part of a system that ensures STEMI, or ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, patients get the care they need as quickly as possible, officials with the hospital said.

Caleb O’Rear, CEO of Denton Regional Medical Center, said in a statement that the Lifeline program is recognizing the work of the cardiac unit at the hospital and making it easier for the staff to improve outcomes for its cardiac patients.

In December, the hospital was also recognized with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by the Leapfrog group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.

Denton Regional is part of HCA North Texas Division Hospitals, which includes 12 hospitals and related health care entities serving North Texas and surrounding areas.

On June 3, Courtyard by Marriott in Denton was presented the Gold Circle Award for 2012 at the hotel chain’s general managers conference held in Orlando, Fla.

The Gold Circle recognition is given to the top 10 percent of hotels in the Courtyard brand for overall guest satisfaction. This is the second year in a row the Courtyard by Marriott in Denton has won the award.

The Courtyard by Marriott opened in 2009. The four-floor hotel has 92 rooms, including three suites. It also has 1,200 square feet of meeting space.

The Courtyard by Marriott is managed by Jay Darsie, and it is located at 2800 Colorado Blvd.

Denton will soon be home to a new pizzeria that will feature a Mugnaini wood-fire oven.

The business at 508 S. Elm St., Suite 101 will be called Last Drop Tavern, and it is expected open next month, according to its owner, Rick Reid.

“While traveling extensively in my 20s to the United Kingdom, I fell in love with the look of the taverns there, and also fell in love with the Italian restaurants that served pizza in a wood-fired oven, so I want to bring the two together here,” Reid said.


Dr. Patrick Felicitas, a primary doctor with Health Services of North Texas, will be leaving his position this month. Felicitas joined the facility as a primary doctor two years ago.

Felicitas received his medical degree from Manila Central University in 1993.

Felicitas will be practicing primary medicine in another North Texas facility, he said.

He acquired his Texas Medical Board license in 2011, according to the association’s website.


With stores in Illinois, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Texas, Swedish-based Ikea announced this week they would be add 24 Blink electric vehicle charging stations across eight locations in the United States, including its store in Frisco.

In partnership with ECOtality, a clean electric transportation and storage technologies company, Ikea is expected to begin installation of the charging stations by the end of summer 2013.


A title company announced last week that it was closing its business.

Texas Eagle Title, LLC notified the Texas Department of Insurance they ceased operations of the business on Thursday.

In its news statement, company officials said the company began winding down its operations in late April.

Today marks the third anniversary of Social Media Day.

The celebration started by the online site calls for people to think of the many ways social media has changed lives for the better.

Kristina Costanza joined the Cencor Realty Services as the director of marketing for the Golden Triangle Mall.

Prior to joining the mall, Costanza served as assistant general manager and director of sales and marketing for Turnberry Associates, a regional lifestyle center, in Destin, Fla. Also with Turnberry, she worked in Las Vegas as director of tourism for Town Square Las Vegas, a lifestyle and entertainment project. She entered the mall management and marketing profession in 1999, working as assistant director of marketing and business development for Simon Property Group in Las Vegas.

Costanza received a bachelor’s in business management and marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1998.

She is married and has one child.


Reves & Associates Counseling announced last week that two people recently joined the staff as licensed professional counselors/interns.

Catherine Richardson joined the staff in April and sees individuals, families and adolescents for a myriad of issues ranging from traumatic life experiences to strained family relationships. She specializes in therapeutic groups, career counseling, financial literacy and marriage and family issues. Richardson graduated from the Dallas Theological Seminary in 2012, where she received her master of arts in biblical counseling.

Holly Steward specializes in children’s and play therapy and joined the staff in early June. She received both her bachelor’s in pyschology and her master’s degree in counseling education with emphasis in play therapy from the University of North Texas. She received her master’s degree in 2010.
