8 a.m. to noon — “Building Bridges to Success,” a free parenting seminar presented by Denton ISD’s Bilingual/ESL Department, at Calhoun Middle School, 709 Congress St. Call 940-369-0150.

8:30 a.m. to noon — Denton High School cheerleaders’ spring junior cheer clinic for girls ages 5 to eighth grade, in the school’s main gymnasium, 1007 Fulton St. Cost includes snacks and a T-shirt. 9 a.m. — 5K Color Run and 1K Walk benefiting Special Abilities of North Texas at North Lakes Park, 2001 W. Windsor Drive. Registration is $25 for the run, $15 for the walk. A free fun run for kids also will be held. Participants are asked to wear white clothing so they can be splashed with color along the course. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — SKYWARN severe weather program presented by the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, in the auditorium of TWU’s Multipurpose Classroom Laboratory building, at Bell Avenue and College Street. Free. Visit

9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Volunteer Income Tax Assistance for low-to-moderate-income families at North Branch Library, 3020 N. Locust St. To qualify, annual household income must be $50,000 or less. Free. Call 940-566-2688.

10 to 11:30 a.m. — Denton Benefit League’s Kids in Motion event at the Center for Visual Arts, 401 E. McKinney St. Children will take part in craft activities while learning to help others. 10 a.m. to noon — “Go Geocaching” at Emily Fowler Central Library, 502 Oakland St. Adults and families can learn about the high-tech activity; bring a GPS device if you have one, but some will be available to use. Free. Call 940-349-8752 to register.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — St. James AME Church’s African American History Month Celebration includes a health and wellness fair at 1107 E. Oak St. Event includes screenings, a cooking demonstration and health information. Other activities include historical programs, skits and exhibits. Gretel L’Heureux and Chelsea Stallings of the Denton County Office of History & Culture will give presentations about the history of Quakertown at 12:45 p.m. Call 940-387-1223.
