10 a.m. to noon — Trout derby at Ray Roberts Lake State Park’s Johnson Branch Unit, on FM3002, 7 miles east of I-35. Children of all ages are welcome to participate at the Kid Fish Pond. Prizes will be awarded for a variety of categories. $7 entrance fee for ages 13 and older. Call 940-637-2636.

4 p.m. — New Year’s Eve at Jack’s Tavern, 508 S. Elm St. Newly expanded bar now boasts a full kitchen, more pool tables and more space. Balloon drop and champagne toast at midnight. No cover.

6 to 8 p.m. — New Year’s Eve stargazing at Ray Roberts Lake State Park’s Johnson Branch Unit, on FM3002, 7 miles east of I-35. Participants are welcome to bring a flashlight (with a red lens only), binoculars or a telescope. Blankets and lawn chairs are recommended for comfortable viewing. This program is weather dependent. $7 entrance fee for ages 13 and older. Call 940-637-2636.
