Families invited to attend College and Career Expo

Denton ISD's Counseling Services will host a College and Career Expo from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 21 at the LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex, 1504 Long Road.

The event will feature interactive sessions with students and parents to prepare for college. Topics include financial planning, emerging career trends and how to earn college credit in high school.

Several colleges will also distribute materials during the college fair portion of the event. Counselors will be on hand to answer questions and Spanish translation is available for certain sessions.

Argyle ISD

Homecoming activities set for next week

The Argyle ISD community is invited to celebrate homecoming with a carnival, pep rally and bonfire next week at Argyle High School, 191 U.S. Highway 377.

Events will kick off with a carnival at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Argyle High School drumline will then lead the crowd to the football stadium for a community-wide pep rally. The bonfire will immediately follow.

Lake Dallas ISD

FFA shows prize-winning livestock at State Fair

The Lake Dallas High School Future Farmers of America kicked off its livestock show season at the State Fair of Texas. Several students competed in the swine categories and walked away with ribbons of their own.

Lake Dallas winners include:

Rylie Hardin — first in Berkshire class, second in Berkshire show class, second in class and Reserve Champion of breed with his Hampshire gilt.

Brandie Brown — First and third in one Spotted gilt class, second and third in her second Spotted gilt class, second in Chester White class, third in Chester White show class.

Adelyn Smith — Fourth and fifth in Landrace gilt class, second in Berkshire gilt show class, second in Chester White class, fifth in Berkshire show class.

Keeley Hilliard — Fourth and sixth in Duroc class.

Kaitlyn Moody — Fifth in Crossbred class.

Tyler Forehand — Fifth in Chester White class.

Ashlee Hillard — Fourth in Duroc class.

Liberty Christian School

Choirs gear up for fall concert

The Liberty Christian Middle and Upper School choirs will perform their fall concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 at Liberty Christian School, 1301 U.S. Highway 377 in Argyle.

The program, titled "Can't Stop the Feeling," will feature pop songs about love, like "Stop! In the Name of Love" by the Supremes, "I Saw Her Standing There" by the Beatles and "You're My Best Friend" by Queen. The Upper School choir is coming off its first state championship last year.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the door.


Lewisville school retirees to host monthly meeting

The Lewisville Area Retired School Personnel Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at the Lewisville Church of Christ, 901 College Parkway.

The speaker will be state Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Frisco, who will share his experience as a participant in the World Marathon Challenge.

The group will be collecting new and gently used books for the Children's Book Project and nonperishable food items for a local food bank. Light refreshments and door prizes will be provided.
