Student named as TSMRI fellow

The Texas Social Media Research Institute (TSMRI) announced that Robin Bartoletti, manager of the Faculty Commons and Learning Technologies at Academic Partnerships, is one of six chosen as a research fellow for 2012-13. Bartoletti is also a Ph.D. candidate in the College of Education at Texas Woman’s University.

The Texas Social Media Research Institute is a multidisciplinary collaboration based at Tarleton State University in Stephenville. The TSMRI Fellowship program aims to foster research on social media and provide researchers and practitioners resources for discovery, both applied and scholarly. Fellows will work with TSMRI to connect social media to their research agendas.

Bartoletti’s research looks at a shift from a top-down information delivery paradigm to a philosophy that shows respect for open source shared content and seeks best practices across all areas of educational technology.

The research the fellows have shown interest in will shed more light on social media and the way it is applied in different fields. The selected TSMRI fellows anticipate doing research on such aspects as roles of social media in the classroom/workplace, expectations of privacy, perception, image of students/professors who engage in social networking and understanding niche social networks such as Instagram.
