Phi Kappa Phi members earn award

Two members of the Texas Woman’s University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi honor society received the Love of Learning award, worth $500.

Shelby Garner, currently an assistant professor of nursing at Baylor University, and Erika Johnson, a rhetoric doctoral student, were the two recipients from TWU and among 147 recipients nationwide.

The award was created in 2007 to help fund graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and students for active members.

Scholarship recipient goes to England

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship was awarded to Kristin Rhoden, a sophomore biology major, to study at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England, this fall.

An honors student, she will take core classes and British studies at Harlaxton and plans to travel while in England.

The $2,500 award helps undergraduates who might otherwise not participate in study programs abroad because of financial restraints.

TWU receives nearly $1 million federal grant

TWU received a $955,547 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration to fund a cross-disciplinary training program.

The grant is funding informatics classes for students in nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy and nutrition and food sciences at all three TWU campuses.
