Creative writing contest now open at NCTC

The annual North Central Texas College Creative Writing Contest is now accepting entries from area writers and poets.

Aspiring writings from sixth-graders to adults can enter the contest for their age group. Right now, anyone in Texas or Oklahoma can enter the free contest. Each age bracket has subcategories for poetry, short stories and essays.

Last year, there were more than 600 entries. First-place winners receive $75, while those earning second place receive $50 and third place will receive $30.

The deadline for entries is noon Wednesday, Feb. 21. Forms and instructions are available at creativewriting.nctc.edu.

The winners will be announced in a ceremony on Sunday, April 13 at the NCTC campus in Gainesville.
