Jay-lin Jane, a retired chemist and researcher, is the 2017 recipient of Texas Woman's University Chancellor's Alumni Excellence Award.
Jane, who earned her master's degree in organic chemistry from TWU, went on to earn her doctorate, and later developed a digestion-resistant starch that aids in colon cancer and diabetes research. She's also worked to improve the efficiency of ethanol production from raw starch, and worked on making bio-renewable plastics from proteins like soybeans, corn and chicken feathers.
Before she retired in 2016, she was a distinguished professor in agriculture and life science at Iowa State University.
Jane will return to the TWU campus to give a presentation to faculty and students, and be formally recognized, Friday, Oct. 20.
The Chancellor's Alumni Excellence Award was established in 2011 to recognize graduates for exceptional accomplishments in their fields and/or public service.
