Lecture at UNT to discuss importance of preserving endangered language data

Renowned linguists Helen Aristar-Dry and Gary Simons will talk about digital language databases as part of the Discovery Series by the College of Information at the University of North Texas.

The two will discuss the Electronic Metastructure for Endangered Languages Data, a project that helps preserve endangered languages and documentation about them. However, it hasn't been updated since 2007.

During their talk, the two will discuss why the content and technology behind EMELD needs to be updated and the challenges associated with updates. After the presentation, there will be a panel discussion with UNT professors who study linguistics and information science.

The lecture is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 250H in Willis Library. It is free and open to the public.
