Judge: 3 lack standing to sue city

Plaintiffs in the Denton City Council term limits case suffered a blow last week when a judge said three of them lacked legal standing to sue the city. But District Judge David Evans said he would allow the case to move forward to settle a dispute over how to interpret the city’s term limits statue. Five Denton residents — including two candidates — sued the city secretary in April to keep three other candidates off the May 10 ballot for alleged term limit violations. The judge found that only the rival candidates, Justin Bell and Mike Sutton, had standing to bring the suit.
