Courtesy photos/UNT Graduates of the University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design have gone on to see their work in the Whitney Museum of American Art, at the Dallas Museum of Art and on Project Runway. The UNT Art Gallery has just opened an exhibition of work by the artists who teach these rising art stars. Professor Janie Stidham, who teaches the fashion designers of the future, shows A New Life (above), a shrug made of felted cashmere and silk, and embellished with glass beads and metal findings. Art faculty member and jeweler James Thurman shows Tectonic Pebble Necklace (top photo), made of a substance he calls Thurmanite, made from a recycled atlas, and sterling silver. An opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The exhibition runs through Oct. 29. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Admission is free. The gallery is on the first floor of the Art Building, at Welch and Mulberry streets.
