What's that racket? Denton Community Theatre opens Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor this weekend.
The comedy was inspired by Simon's days as a young TV writer, and the characters are based on some of the most enduring names in comedy - Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner and Larry Gelbart chief among them. Like Noises Off, Laughter on the 23rd Floor shows that what happens behind the scenes can be funnier than what's on the air.
Amy Jackson directs familiar faces in the roles of Kenny Franks (Damon Wadyko), Val Slotsky (Pat Watson), Ira Stone (Dennis Welch), Max Prince (Travis Barth), Carol Wyman (Misty Baptiste), Milt Fields (Johnny Bryant) and Bryan Doyle (Bryan Thomas Patrick). The roles of Lucas Brickman and Helen are played by newcomers Jake Smith and Erin Elliott.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday and Feb. 3-4, with matinee shows at 2 p.m. Sunday and Feb. 5, at the Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory St.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors. The play is rated R for strong language. For reservations, call 940-382-1915.
