David Carles and Jana Etheridge own Cafe Du Luxe in Denton’s Unicorn Lake development.

Fine coffee and wine bistro marks 3 years

Cafe Du Luxe is celebrating another year in business with its third Birthday Bash on Saturday.

Festivities are slated to take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the restaurant at 3101 Unicorn Lake Blvd.

Throughout the evening there will be a half-priced special on all food and drink purchases, live music, free coffee and tea, cupcakes and limited-edition T-shirts for every 10th customer.

Cafe Du Luxe, owned by David Carles and Jana Etheridge, opened in July 2009 as a coffee and wine cafe. It was originally designed as a franchise prototype, Carles said.

In the last three years, he said, they’ve built a strong, loyal and growing customer base. He described the business’s first three years as exciting, gratifying and challenging.

The biggest change to Cafe Du Luxe in that time, Carles said, was how “we perceived ourselves and what we offered the clientele.” He said what the owners learned is that people wanted a restaurant, so the business has been refashioned to become restaurant-oriented with an expansion of its food menu.

“We’re an upscale coffee and wine bistro,” he said. “We’re not your average restaurant.”

Carles said the birthday bash is an opportunity to celebrate the cafe’s accomplishments and its customers.

“It helps us to give back to the people that have been loyal to us,” he said.

The cafe is known to many as Denton’s best-kept secret, Carles said, but now, “We’d like the secret to get out.”
