Grammy and Academy Award winner Regina Belle will perform in concert in Denton on Oct. 27.

Grammy-winning gospel artist graces local stage for benefit

Four-time Grammy Award winner and Academy Award-winning vocalist Regina Belle will perform a benefit concert for the Denton African American Scholarship Foundation at 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 in Winspear Hall at the Murchison Performing Arts Center.

Belle is well known for “A Whole New World,” her duet with Peabo Bryson on the soundtrack of Disney’s Aladdin. But Belle is best known for her gospel music, including the song “Higher” and her new lead single, “Make an Example Out of Me.”

Artist Arlington Jones, a pianist, composer and producer, will perform at the concert. Jones is known for his high-spirited, unpredictable melodies and arrangements. In March, Steinway and Sons added him to its distinguished international roster of Steinway artists.

The Denton African American Scholarship Foundation helps black teens pay for college expenses. Holly Beard, a Guyer High School graduate, received the 2012 Euline and Horace Brock Scholarship, worth $4,000, and is attending the University of Texas. Other top scholarship winners included Ryan High School graduates Johneshia Daniels, who received a $2,000 award, and Israa Babiker, who received $1,500.

Tickets to the concert cost $50 and $75. For reservations, visit or call 940-369-7802.

The Murchison is located at 1200 North Texas Blvd. off Interstate 35E on the University of North Texas campus.
