The Denton Community Theatre aims to celebrate people who have contributed to the PointBank Black Box Performing Arts Center’s donor tile wall with the production Top Hats and Tiles this weekend.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. today through Sunday at the venue.

Mike Barrow, Denton Community Theatre managing director, said the wall of 160 ceramic tiles has been an ongoing project the last two years. Individuals purchased tiles at various price levels to assist in paying off the building improvement loan needed for the space. More than 60 tiles are still available for purchase.

“The main thing that we want to say to people is how appreciative that we are that they bought the tiles … and this is a celebration in their honor,” Barrow said.

Top Hats and Tiles features Denton vocalists Katie Moyes Williams, Pat Sherman, Kay Lamb, Maria Valastro Harris and Sherna Armstrong, accompanied by pianist John Priddy, performing numbers saluting the legendary ladies of Broadway. Pre-show entertainment, beginning at 6:45 p.m., features Denton piano man Bob Rogers.

Donna Trammell, the show’s creator and director, said Top Hats spotlights women and features songs from Broadway shows with feminine names or traits.

The full-length show, which clocks in at about an hour and a half, has the five featured vocalists stepping to a microphone and performing selections from Broadway shows including Annie, Aida and others, cabaret-style.

Collectively, the five vocalists have about 75 years’ experience in previous productions at Denton’s Campus Theatre, Trammell said.

“We do some [songs] from [the] 1930s, and all the way up through Wicked and the things that are showing now,” Trammell said. “It’s sort of for everyone.”

General admission tickets for Top Hats and Tiles are $15. Individuals who’ve donated to the tile wall will receive two free tickets, Barrow said.
