Latonia Moore, a former University of North Texas opera student, is stepping in once again.
Moore, who is currently performing the title role in the Dallas Opera’s Aida, will be singing in tonight’s concert at UNT’s Murchison Performing Arts Center in the place of soprano Christine Goerke, who had to cancel because of an illness.
Moore will perform a concert of art song and opera arias with Elvia Puccinelli on piano. The soprano gained notice for her debut with New York’s Metropolitan Opera in March, when she stepped into the role of Aida as a last-minute substitution.
Moore studied at UNT from 1997 to 1999 as a student of the late Pattye Johnstone in UNT’s College of Music.
Tonight’s program, sponsored in part by the UNT Fine Art Series, will include Rachmaninoff’s Six Songs, Op. 38, as well as works by Tchaikovsky and Puccini.
Tickets cost $20 for the general public. Tickets previously purchased for the Goerke concert will be honored. UNT students will be admitted free with ID.
The concert will be in Winspear Hall at the Murchison Performing Arts Center, on the north side of Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard. For tickets or more information, call 940-369-7802 or visit www.thempac.com .
The Dallas Opera’s final performances of Aida are on Friday and Sunday.
