Czech pianist Jiri Levicek will perform 7:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 5500 Morriss Road in Flower Mound. Levicek appears as a featured performer of the Lewisville Lake Symphony’s International Chamber Music Series. He’ll perform a program including Schubert, Beethoven, Chopin and Czech composer Leos Janacek.
The concert is presented in cooperation with the College of Music at the University of North Texas.
Levicek will perform the Janacek Sonata No. 1.X.1905. Titled From the Street, the composer wrote the work in tribute to a worker who, on the date in the title — Oct. 1, 1905 — was killed after being stabbed with a bayonet during a demonstration to support a Czech university in Brno.
Levicek was born in Brno and was recognized as a piano talent as a child. He made his first solo performance appearances with Czech Republic orchestras at ages 11 and 15. He was invited to study piano at the Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts, where he earned a degree. He earned his artist certificate and master’s degree at the UNT College of Music, where he is now pursuing a doctoral degree.
Concert admission is free, but donations are accepted.
Levicek has won several piano competitions in the United States and abroad, including the first prize in the International Piano Competition for the Leos Janacek Award. At that contest, Levicek was recognized for giving the best performance of Janacek music.
