At league event, kids learn value of serving others

The Denton Benefit League will host its third annual Kids in Motion event from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Center for the Visual Arts, 400 E. Hickory St. Organizers say the event is an opportunity for children to participate in community service.

Children will write letters and make cards for members of the U.S. military, create paper flower bouquets for the Willow Bend Assisted Living community, work on blankets for animals at the Denton Animal Shelter, and decorate a pottery piece that will be auctioned at the upcoming 2013 Denton Benefit League Charity Ball.

Children will also be invited to deliver their craft creations to the animal shelter and Willow Bend in the coming days.

The event will also include face painting and cookie decorating.

Admission for the event is a nonperishable food item for the Denton Community Food Center.
