DentonRadio.com isn’t going up against the mammoth that is 35 Denton. It’s supplementing the festival with a free party of its own that will give its stage over entirely to local artists. (The city’s habit of creating spin-off festivals goes back as far as the Fry Street Fair.)
The all-ages Denton Radio on the Square festival, which runs today through Sunday, includes up-and-coming Denton talent and bigger draws — My Kickdrum Heart, Ashley Gatta & the Free People, Bone Doggie & the Hickory Street Hellraisers and two-time Grammy-winning polka band Brave Combo. Audiences are welcome to pack lunches and dinners, or take advantage of the restaurants on the Square.
DentonRadio.com is an online radio station devoted entirely to Denton music. The site breaks down Denton’s music scene into four genres: Americana, rock, easy listening and music by women. Or you can point your mouse to the “main” button and get a mix of all of it.
The station also is home to Doggie Time, an hourlong show with local musician Bone Doggie as host. The host shares each show with other local personalities and musicians at 8 p.m. each Tuesday, but past episodes are also available on the site.
