Fading relationship, in song

Texas Woman’s University Theatre Arts Department opens the fourth show of the season today.

The musical by Jason Robert Brown looks back at a couple’s five-year relationship — from the first date to the last goodbye. Cathy starts her side of the story from the end of the romance. Jamie recalls his side from the beginning. The story of the romance is told mostly in song, and examines the humor and heartbreak of a relationship that has gone cold.

Five Years brings three graduates together, all of whom are fulfilling part of a student project. Master of arts candidate Katlyn Snader is directing, and master’s candidate Araceli Bowling performs the role of Cathy. Master of arts candidate Emily Johns is the music director of the production.

Other TWU students on the directorial team are Jonathan Charles, costume design; Morgan Gaston, lighting design; Kathy Cox, stage manager; and Kelsey Jones, assistant stage manager.
