Twilight Tunes dips south of the border

Infectious Andean melodies and driving percussion might shake a rump or two tonight at Twilight Tunes.

The annual free summer music series started last week. Today, familiar Denton musicians band together to make hip-shaking music about life and love in the vein of chichi and cumbia peruana.

Los Patos Poderosos is Mafe Naranjo, Monica Gastelumendi and Laura Otero on vocals, Robert Hokamp, Ronan Delisle and Jesse Coulter on guitars and Joe Cripps and Andrew Scott on percussion. The three South American singers bring three-part harmonies to upbeat accompaniment.

Twilight Tunes is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today on the lawn of the Courthouse on the Square, 110 W. Hickory St.

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and chairs. Locals and visitors are urged to buy dinner from nearby restaurants — or linger after the music to enjoy desserts and drinks.

Denton Main Street Association presents the concert event that sets the tone for fun downtown every Thursday through July 3, with a bonus morning concert on Friday, July 4.

Up next week: country music by the Bird Dogs.
