UNT professor to sing at Highland Village shops

University of North Texas music faculty member Jennifer Barnes will make a little night music for shoppers in Highland Village on Tuesday night.

Barnes, the director of the UNT vocal jazz program and director of the award-winning UNT Jazz Singers, is a recording artist, a jingle singer and singer with film and television credits (Ice Age 2, Glee).

Barnes is a busy singer in the studio and on the stage. She’s added her voice to TV advertisements for Chili’s Grill & Bar, Epson and Old El Paso.

She’s recorded a solo vocal jazz album, You Taught My Heart, and sings alto with Vertical Voices with Kerry Marsh, Julia Dollison and Greg Jasperse. She also writes and arranges for the a cappella sextet Sixth Wave.

Barnes will sing with a band including bassist John Adams, drummer Steve Barnes and keyboardist Addison Frei.

The free concert starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Shops at Highland Village, at the northwest corner of FM2499 and FM207. The performance will be at the center’s south fountain, near Patrizio and Chico’s.
