Country and Western swing duo Bonnie and Nick Norris mean to keep their summer date with Twilight Tunes tonight on the downtown Denton Square. The brother-and-sister band is shown here at the Denton Arts & Jazz Festival in April.

Norris duo will set the Square to swinging tonight

Bonnie and Nick Norris, a pair of redheaded Denton siblings, returns to the downtown Courthouse on the Square for the duo’s annual date with Twilight Tunes.

Bonnie Norris mans the microphone and the fiddle with an expert’s ease, while brother Nick makes it count on the guitar.

The Norrises are a Denton institution — and still a youthful one, at that. The brother-sister act started crafting Western swing, folk and country music at an age that made them precocious. Today, the duo’s confidence shines through familiar phrases and swoops of music in sweet harmonies and intuitive timing and improvisation.

Denton Main Street Association presents the concert event that sets the tone for fun downtown every Thursday through July 3, with a bonus morning concert for the Fourth of July, following the holiday parade through downtown Denton. Visitors are encouraged to buy dinner and drinks downtown before or after the concert, and on select Thursdays, a bounce house is set out for the young and restless set. Bring blankets, lawn chairs and friends.

Up next week at Twilight Tunes: Bone Doggie & the Hickory Street Hellraisers, with their brand of steampunk Americana. J.R. Byrd will play from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July, just after the parade.
