Denton Community Theatre is taking audiences back this weekend with Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story.

The show is this year’s “Encore” offering, a no-frills summer musical meant to raise funds for the company, which also manages the Campus Theatre.

Brian Lambert, the lead singer and founding member of My Kickdrum Heart, plays the title role of the 1950s heartthrob famous for “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be the Day” and “Everyday.”

Directed by Aileen Stark and Bonnie McCormick, Buddy brings together a cast from the theater scene and Denton’s music scene. Bassist and Quebe Sisters member Drew Phelps plays a member of Holly’s band, the Crickets, with Trent Reeves and Dave Randolph. Johnny Williams plays Hipockets Duncan, Bryan Patrick appears as the Big Bopper and Jaime Rodriguez plays the role of Ritchie Valens.

Performances are at 8 p.m. this Friday and Saturday and July 4-5, and 2 p.m. Sunday and July 6.

Friday’s opening night includes a gala reception at 6:30 in addition to the performance, with tickets priced at $50. Tickets to all other performances cost $20 each. To purchase tickets, visit http://bit.ly/1v7sy7k or call 940-382-1915.

Performances are at the Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory St. For more information, visit www.dentoncommunitytheatre.com.

The company presents the musical with sponsor Kwik Kar Lube and Auto Centers of Denton.
