Local brewer to unveil WunderMelon at Oak Street Drafthouse

Armadillo Ale Works is perfectly aware of what day it is.

It’s a dog day of summer.

There’s only one thing to do: pop a top and throw back a beer made especially for the season.

The Denton craft brewer will tap its first public kegs of WunderMelon at a release party at 7 p.m. Friday at Oak Street Drafthouse and Cocktail Parlor, 308 E. Oak St.

Kolsch beers are typically fermented warm and conditioned cold. They usually pour with a bright, clear yellow and boast fruity flavors. Foodie premonitions might pair Armadillo’s kolsch with grilled tilapia and a veggie roast — maybe some squash, zucchini and peppers on a skewer.

The brewery is conscious of the temperatures and social habits of its hometown, so bets are that WunderMelon will drink lightly and season the palate for supper without straining the waistband of your jeans.
