Former local dance teacher returns to lead master class
Chris Koehl, a former contestant on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, will lead a hip-hop master class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Denton Dance Conservatory.
The class is open to intermediate- and advanced-level dancers ages 10 and older. Cost is $30 per dancer and $5 for observers, said Lisa Racina-Torre, owner and director of the conservatory. Up to 30 dancers are being accepted for the class, she said.
From 2009 to 2011, Koehl served as the hip-hop instructor at Denton Dance Conservatory. He now teaches at the Debbie Reynolds Studio in North Hollywood, Calif.
The instructor was among the top 14 contestants on the eighth season of So You Think You Can Dance. He’s recently appeared on the 2012 Billboard Mexican Music Awards, in Fox’s Glee and in a Cricket Wireless commercial.
Koehl will be a guest artist in Denton Dance Conservatory’s holiday production, A Gift for Emma, which will run Nov. 30 through Dec. 2 at the Krum High School Performance Center.
Koehl is expected to teach two hip-hop combinations during the course of the Saturday’s class, following a warm-up. He’s expected to sign autographs after the class. No cameras will be allowed in the class.
Dancers are being accepted for the master class through 5 p.m. Friday. For more information, call 940-383-2623.
