Downtown gallery bundles celebrations on night of First Friday
This month, the First Friday Denton arts mixer celebrates visual art, its home base’s birthday and the holidays.
First Friday starts at 7 p.m. at A Creative Art Studio, which will spend the evening toasting its third year on the downtown Denton Square and “Festivus.” (A note: Festivus is a secular observance of the season as invented on an episode of the sitcom Seinfeld in 1997. The idea is to have all the fun and cheer of the winter holidays without the pressure, family tension and credit debt.)
Gallery artists who work and display in the studio will be at the studio, at 227 W. Oak St., Suite 101.
The First Friday Festivus Celebration will include music, art and refreshments. Artists will be available to talk about their processes and their art. Musicians Ben and Pia Owens will perform first, on acoustic guitar with vocals, followed by County Rexford, a Denton Celtic and Irish traditional music group.
A Creative Art Studio’s featured artists of the month are Daron and Angel Rogers. Daren Rogers graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in painting and drawing. Angel Rogers is a painter and photographer.
The studio will host the community painting, a popular exercise that invites all who come through the studio to add to a single, unfinished work. For $7, patrons can make a holiday tin under the guidance of Crystal Nelson.
The mixer includes other downtown galleries, including Oxide Gallery, 211 N. Cedar St; UNT on the Square, 109 N. Elm St.; and other businesses. For more information and locations, visit http://firstfridaydenton.com .
