Symphony performs with young pianist

The Lewisville Lake Symphony will continue its 2012-13 season with music from legendary composers Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven on Friday.

The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St. in Lewisville, features award-winning pianist William Chiang performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 and the orchestra playing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito Overture and Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 101, also known as The Clock.

Tickets are $25 for the general public, $10 for students and $20 for seniors ages 60 and older.

Chiang, 16, was recently awarded the grand prize in the Vernell Gregg Young Artists Competition for his performance of the Beethoven concerto. The Plano student also earned the grand prize in piano at the 2012 Young Artist Competition in Collin County and has been recognized with various prizes at competitions in Lewisville, Houston and Plano.

The Lewisville Lake Symphony has an ongoing partnership with the University of North Texas’ College of Music.
