Three years of teasing

Local burlesque company marks anniversary

Whiskey Tongue Burlesque has been teasing local audiences for three years now.

The ladies of lace, satin and the occasional cluster of balloons will celebrate with a show at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Mable Peabody’s Beauty Parlor & Chainsaw Repair, 1125 E. University Drive.

The burlesque show is an R-rated event with partial nudity — and lots of pop music and theatrics — from a corps of local striptease artists. Gloves are sensually peeled off. Gossamer garments drift to the floor. Champagne flutes full of gold glitter are tipped over contorted torsos.

The ladies of the troupe — Lemme Addams, Tipsy Cupps, Ruby Manhattan, Ginger Rockafella and Bethalishus — will perform new acts, and special quests Jack O’Hartz, drag queen Nikki Trash and gentleman bellydancer Draconis will perform. Long-absent Whiskey Tongue dancer Willa Wisp returns to the stage for the anniversary, and Kitty Layne and Valarie McMullen are set to make appearances.

Doors open at 8 p.m., and preshow music by Lydia Low and the Deadpan Poets starts at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $5, and the venue is open to ages 21 and older only.
