Ugandan children’s choir to visit North Texas

An African children’s choir will make stops soon in Corinth and Denton on a tour through the United States.

The Watoto Children’s Choir began its six-month tour in December. The choir brings its latest concert, “Beautiful Africa: A New Generation,” to the Church of Corinth at 7 p.m. Jan. 23. The church is located at 3201 Tower Ridge Drive in Corinth. The choir gives another performance at 5 p.m. Jan. 25 at Southmont Baptist Church, 2801 Teasley Lane. The concerts are free.

The members of the choir act as ambassadors to raise awareness about the plight of orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa. Each child in the choir has suffered the loss of one or both parents. They live in the Watoto children’s villages in Uganda, where they receive the care and nurturing they need to grow up as productive citizens.

Each concert presents original music, dance and stories. The music is an energetic fusion of contemporary gospel and traditional African rhythm. Since its inception, 64 choirs have traveled globally. The choirs have been to Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, France and elsewhere.
