Down Low

Twilight Tunes opens with folk, power-pop

Denton singer-songwriter Lydia Low opens the 21st annual Twilight Tunes, the free Thursday night music series on the downtown Square.

Low spins Sapphic love songs and imaginings across a menu of styles. In “Mad Mad Maggie,” for instance, she channels her inner Ani DiFranco. But Low can also turn out power-pop electronica with a looping pedal. Her debut release, Wrecked Till Further Notice, came out in September. Low has kept busy on the coffeehouse circuit and performs regularly at DentonRadio.com shows.

Low plays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today on the lawn of the Courthouse on the Square.

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets and chairs. Locals and visitors are urged to buy dinner from nearby restaurants — or linger after the music to enjoy desserts and drinks.

Denton Main Street Association presents the concert event that sets the tone for fun downtown every Thursday through July 3, with a bonus morning concert on Friday, July 4, following the Fourth of July parade through downtown Denton.
