Keeping it together

SCRAP adds new glue to its stock of art supplies

SCRAP Denton, a nonprofit that resells affordable and reusable art, craft and office supplies, is adding new craft glues, jewelry-making tools and other materials to its array of products.

The new supplies, which went on sale this month, include Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue, Mod Podge and hot glue guns.

Most SCRAP’s offerings are recycled materials that might have otherwise been discarded. But because products like glue don’t last as long as raw materials, all such products sold at SCRAP Denton are brand new.

Heather Gregory, SCRAP’s community engagement coordinator, said the nonprofit felt it could better meet customers’ needs with the new offerings. Glue is one of those things that artists and crafters “use no matter what they’re working on,” she said. When people come to SCRAP Denton for other materials, they can now add glue and other new products to their purchase, saving them an additional trip to another store.

Currently, SCRAP Denton carries a dozen of each new product in stock, Gregory said.

“For these new materials, we’ll always make sure that we keep them in store and have them available,” she said.

SCRAP Denton, at 215 W. Oak St., has a goal to collect 15 tons of arts, crafts, school, office and party supplies this year, Gregory said. So far, it’s collected more than half of its intended goal. In previous years, the nonprofit had a goal of collecting 12 tons annually in donations.

SCRAP also offers educational programs and showcases work from local artists.
