Children

Preschool Jr. Master Naturalist Program

What: "Show Me the Energy," a program for children and their adult guardians. Each unit includes activities, arts and crafts, literature and a nature hike. Presented by Elm Fork Texas Master Naturalists and Denia Recreation Center.

Ages: 3 to 5

Meets: 10 a.m. to noon March 3 at Cross Timbers Park, 7112 Montecito Drive

Cost: $8 per child

Preschool cooking class

What: "Scratch Baby," a program for parent-and-child teams to cook nutritious meals together, introducing new ingredients and textures in a relaxed setting.

Ages: 2 to 6

Meets: 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, March 20 through April 21, at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St.

Cost: $55 per child

King Tot Drop

What: A parents' day out program. Parents can drop off their children for fun, supervised activities on the first and third Saturday of each month. Children should bring snacks or lunch, and must be toilet-trained.

Ages: 3 to 6

Meets: 10 a.m. to noon on March 4, March 18, April 1 and April 15 at Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1300 Wilson St.

Cost: $10

Young Rembrandts Intermediate Drawing

What: Teaches students advanced drawing skills, art techniques and vocabulary. All materials provided.

Ages: 6 and older

Meets: 5 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, April 3-24, at North Lakes Recreation Center, 2001 W. Windsor Drive

Cost: $52

Kayaking: Intro to Paddling

What: Learn safety skills, boat orientation and stroke technique. Kayaks and floatation devices provided.

Ages: 8 and up

Meets: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. June 5-8 at Water Works Park, 2800 Long Road

Teens

Texas Isshinryu Karate

What: Age-appropriate classes to teach karate technique, philosophy and character.

Ages: Teens and older

Meets: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through March and April at Denia Recreation Center, 1001 Parvin St.

Cost: $50

Hypertufa for Ya!

What: Learn how to make a lightweight artificial stone pots, planters or other items in this class. Bring a medium-size item from home to create a mold.

Ages: Ages 15 and older

Meets: 10 a.m. to noon March 4 at Denia Recreation Center, 1001 Parvin St.

Cost: $15

Introduction to Aerial Skills

What: Twisted Bodies teaches basic aerial skills, safety, tying footlocks, inversions, drops and more. Aerial skills uses hoops, swings and long swatches of material to teach the art associated with the artists of Cirque du Soleil.

Ages: 17 and older

Meets: 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, March 2 to April 13, at Denia Recreation Center, 1001 Parvin St.

Adults

Date Night Cooking Class

What: Couples learn recipes and make meals from around the world together -- with a side of nutrition education

Ages: 17 and older

Meets: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Fridays, March 20 through April 21, at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1300 Wilson St.

Cost: $60 per couple

Beginning Country & Western Dance

What: Learn the two-step, waltz, swing and other partner dances. For couples and singles.

Ages: 17 and up

Meets: 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, March 9-30, at Denia Recreation Center, 1001 Parvin St.

Cost: $35 per person

Beginning Archery

What: Learn the fundamentals of archery with certified instructors on an indoor range.

Ages: 18 and up

Meets: 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 7-28, at Denia Recreation Center, 1001 Parvin St.

Seniors

Senior Water Exercise

What: Strength training exercises in the pool or basic water exercise

Ages: Targeted at seniors 55 and older, but younger people are welcome, too.

Meets: Strength training meets from 9 to 9:55 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Water exercise meets from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Classes are at the Denton Natatorium, 2800 Long Road.

Cost: $20 for one-month pass, $60 for four-month pass, $120 for 12-month pass.

Matter of Balance

What: Trained instructors help seniors conquer their fear of falling through exercise.

Ages: 60 and older

Meets: 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 21 through May 9, at Denton Senior Center, 509 N. Bell Ave.

Cost: Free with a Rec Pass: $10 yearly ($15 for nonresidents), or $40 yearly for resident family ($60 for nonresident family). Registration is required. Register online or call 940-349-8720.

Senior Yoga

What: Learn relaxation, regulating your body's energy and gentle poses

Ages: 50 and up

Meets: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, April 11 through May 16, at the Denton Senior Center, 509 N. Bell Ave.
