University of North Texas Opera Theatre opens its staging of The Dialogues of the Carmelites on Thursday, April 6, in Lyric Theatre at the Murchison Performing Arts Center.

Carmelites is based on the real-life story of the order of nuns of Compiegne, France, who were martyred during the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror that followed. Composed by Francis Poulenc, the opera is told through lush music but speaks simply, and through spare musuc at turns.

Professor Stephen Dubberly conducts the orchestra, and David Ward directs.

The opera is performed in French with English supertitles. Performances will be at 8 p.m. April 6-8 and 3 p.m. April 9. The Murchison is off Interstate 35E at North Texas Boulevard.

Tickets range from $15 to $35. For tickets, call 940-369-7802 or visit
