Denton artist Marilyn Smith is the featured artist for December in the 2011 Visual Arts Society of Texas Calendar. Smith said she is drawn to the variety of the ordinary poinsettia. "I let the colors flow and mix themselves to arrive at this watercolor painting," Smith writes in her artist statement. "We traditionally use this red plant to symbolize the holiday season, thus the name, It's Nearly Christmas."
