Former UNT voice student to star in ‘Aida’
Soprano Latonia Moore, who studied voice under the late Pattye Johnstone at the University of North Texas, will perform the title role in the Dallas Opera’s staging of Aida, the 2012-13 season opener.
The Verdi opera will open at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, 2403 Flora St. in Dallas.
Moore stepped into the same role overnight in March at the Metropolitan Opera after soprano Violeta Urmana left the role because of illness. Moore earned the Dallas Opera’s 2004 Maria Callas Award for debut artist of the year. Of her Covent Garden debut, London’s Sunday Times culture writer Hugh Canning wrote: “Moore’s creamy, lyric soprano could take her to the top of her profession.”
Subscriptions for the main stage productions of the Dallas Opera’s season are on sale now, starting at $75. Call the ticket services office at 214-443-1000 or visit www.dallasopera.org.
