Denton Community Theatre was nominated for the 2013 Column Awards in 17 categories and brought home two awards from Monday’s ceremony in Irving.
The Column is an online magazine dedicated to covering amateur and professional theater in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Ken Orman and Victoria Bell were nominated and won for their parts in Denton Community Theatre’s musical Hairspray — Orman for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Bell for Best Featured Actress in a Musical — Victoria Bell.
Professional performers and technicians are part of the Actors’ Equity Association, and were nominated in Equity categories. Non-professional performers — some of whom are professional performers but were nominated for their work in nonprofit plays and musicals — were nominated in non-Equity categories.

■ Chita Rivera Dance Award, female — Jaclyn Butt
■ Best Original Scenic Design of a Musical — Clay White and Alex Rodriguez
■ Best Lighting Design of a Musical — Elizabeth Lambert
■ Best Costume Design of a Musical — Marcus Lopez
■ Best Sound Design of a Musical — Christopher Redden
Rob Stadt, a Denton performer and theater volunteer, won Best Stage Manager, a broad category encompassing musicals and plays.
Mike Strecher, the technical director of Denton Community Theater, was nominated for Best Original Scenic Design of a Play for his work in the company’s staging of The Elephant Man.
Dena Dunn, a Flower Mound resident who has appeared regularly on the Denton stage, was nominated for Best Actress in a Play, Non-Equity, for her performance in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, presented by Lakeside Community Theatre, based in Lake Dallas.
