For more than five decades, Smitty’s Floor Covering has catered to Denton’s floor covering needs.

The oldest family-owned-and-operated floor-covering store in Denton County opened its doors in 1958 and offers customers carpet, wood, laminate, tile and vinyl, as well as  window shutters and carpet cleaning.

Additionally, Smitty’s also professionally installs its products and offers customers one-on-one sales design.

“The residents of Denton feel that they can trust us to provide the highest quality floors for their homes in a professional but personal way,” according to co-owner Darlene Rogers. “In this economy, the Denton residents also know they can get the most value out of their dollar by shopping with us.”

Providing “high quality cleaning with a customer service focus” is a priority for Maid in America and quite possibly a reason it’s been voted best cleaning service for four consecutive years.

The business has been in the community 19 years and is family owned and operated, according to Jordan Rice, office manager.

Maid in America provides residential and commercial cleaning services, cleaning when moving in or out of a building and window washing.

All employees complete training with a focus on quality cleaning and customer service.

Denton Electric prides itself on “prompt service and friendly honest customer relations,” according to Chris Walding and Stuart Cawthon, co-owners.

The business has operated since 1922, and, since 1989 has been owned and operated by Walding and Cawthon, Denton residents. It offers services including home wiring, repairing lamps, maintenance and repairs, and handles everything from “remodels to large commercial electrical construction.”

The hard work put in by Denton Electric staff to provide quality service at an affordable price is a likely reason residents chose the business as best electrical business in Denton, according to Walding and Cawthon.

“We are only a phone call away,” according to Walding and Cawthon. “Someone is there to answer that phone call. Our techs are friendly and knowledgeable. Our office staff is reliable, gets information out to tour techs promptly so that work and service can get done promptly.”

Denton Fence and Tree Services is the winner of Best in Denton for fencing.

The company provides fence installation and repair for builders and residential customers and tree removal and trimming, according to the company website. It specializes in wood, chain link, wrought iron and barbed wire fencing in addition to tree services.

Denton Fence and Tree Services, according to its website “is the leading fence builder for any fence installation or fence repair.”

Best Heating and Air Conditioning Company

According to owner David Piatt of Work Environmental, residents likely voted his company a Best of Denton winner for its reputation and good service.

The business has operated 45 years and offers air conditioning and heating maintenance, repair and replacement, heating, ventilation and air conditioning design and installation.

“We provide service like it used to be,” according to Piatt. “ We do not [employ] salesmen that focus on system replacement as the only option. Our goal is to keep our customer’s system running as long as possible and only replace with new equipment if it’s the best option for the consumer.”

Quality products and store employees are what set Thomas’ Ethan Allen Interiors apart, said Craig Thomas, co-owner.

The furniture store has been in business since 1953 and offers interior design, custom drapes and custom furniture. Thomas said employees seek to give customers enough information about the products to ensure that in the end, they’re happy with the purchase they’ve made.

“We try to take care of our customers and we have a good product and we have good employees that care about our customers,” he said. “It’s not about just making the sale. We’d rather not make the sale if they’re not going to be happy with it.”

Since 2006, TriStar Repair & Construction has provided “handyman repairs” and full-service remodeling for residential homes and “existing commercial spaces,” said Kira Lee, manager.  Within the last year, the business has expanded its services to ground-up construction.

“TriStar Repair and Construction has a strong focus on customer service with the capabilities and knowledge to take on any sized projects for our customers,” Lee said. “We strive to focus on excellent customer service and quality workmanship because that’s what our customers deserve!”

For 40 years, Frenchy’s Lawn and Tree Service has catered to the landscaping needs of Denton residents. Some services offered include mowing, edging, trimming, tilling, fertilizing, weed-eating, hauling off debris and planting trees, shrubs and flower beds. They’ll also clean out flower beds.

Owner Andre J. “Frenchy” Rheault said he’s not afraid to go “the extra mile to make sure everybody’s yard looks extremely great.”

“We strive to do the best job possible on every client’s yard,” Rheault said. “We pay close attention to detail. We don’t cut cor ners. And a lot of people are aware of all the community work that we do and hire us [because] of it.”

The Calloway’s Nursery Denton location opened its doors in 1998 and offers a wide array of plants “developed and grown specifically for [North Texas],” said Alicia Hicks, director of marketing.

The business, which has 17 Dallas-Fort Worth area locations, offers a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee. In addition to plants, the company provides products that complement the plants, offers deliveries for certain products, and hosts free Saturday-morning clinics on “timely topics” and seasonal events and products to engage customers, Hicks wrote.

The nursery employs “knowledgeable staff” and “more Texas Certified and Master Certified Nursery Professionals than any other retail organization in Texas,” according to Hicks.

BCI Mechanical Inc. has been in business for 30 years and is committed to providing the best service possible by tailoring services to the specific needs of the customer, said Charla Smith, a co-owner.

The business offers services in heating, air conditioning, plumbing, remodeling and new construction for residential, commercial and industrial customers. According to Smith, BCI Mechanical looks to connect the best plumber or technician with a customer and offers “a broad base of knowledge and experience.”

“We know no one really likes having to call a plumber or an A/C tech,” Smith said. “Our employees understand that this is usually an inconvenience to our customers. We try to respond to each problem with respect for what the customer needs from us and give them the best solution for their individual situation. We encourage our customers to provide feedback to allow us to improve our service in the future.”

Denton-based Gohlke Pools has a rich history in the community and offers services including new pool construction, retail products, weekly service, repairs and pool remodeling.

Several Gohlke Pools employees either live or grew up in Denton, including President Matt Gohlke, whose father started the business in 1958. Gohlke said he cleaned pools in grade school and, when he finished college in the 1980, it became his career.

“Even though we make mistakes, when we do we do our best [to] make it right and learn from that mistake,” Gohlke said. “Continual improvement is what we’re all about — we will never rest on our laurels.”

He attributes Gohlke Pools being the Best in Denton Pool Company to its loyal customers.

“We are a preferred contractor for multiple insurance companies,” according to Celeste Moran, office manager. “Our staff has over 150 years of combined experience and includes HAAG Certified Roof Inspectors, SMACNA certified sheet metal workers, and Texas Department of Insurance licensed adjusters.”

Alan Chamberlain says he’s honored residents voted his company the Best in Denton winner for roofing and sincerely thanks “those who have allowed Denton Trinity Roofing to assist them with their roofing needs over the last 34 years.”

Since 2004, Storage Depot has provided a place for residents to self-store its belongings. Sarah Cole, operations manager, says that the business attempts “to maintain a clean, secure, well-lit facility and provide the best customer service.”

Storage facilities are alike but what sets Storage Depot apart is management, according to Cole.

“We put our customers first to help them find the best solution for their storage needs,” according to Cole . “A little customer service goes a long way in any industry.”
