This is the third year in a row that Minor & Jester, P.C. has taken the Best of Denton’s top spot in this category.

Tom Jester joined the firm in 1967 and said the firm is one of the oldest and most respected law firms in Denton. A majority of the firm’s business comes from repeat clients and referrals.

The firm serves clients with the expectation that they will work with them again in the future and that clients will refer friends and family.

Shawn Cagle, owner of Shawn Cagle-City Hall Bail Bonds, jumped into the family business to become a bail bondsman, spurred by his name recognition in the community.

He said he was born and raised in Denton County and while growing up, he developed a reputation for honesty, trustworthiness and for being a hard worker.    

The name recognition started with his father’s business, Cagle Bail Bonds, where he worked part-time. Shortly after it closed, he re-opened a bail bonds business of his own in 1997.

Founded in Denton in 1936, DATCU has won the hearts of the community as the best bank or financial institution.

During its 78 years in Denton, company officials said DATCU developed a unique relationship with the community to ensure its members and local residents live in a community that makes them proud.

Last year, Jeremy Carroll considered it a big honor to snag the best barber shop honor for two consecutive years. And It’s an honor he can keep another year. Carroll’s barbershop is known for its casual atmosphere as customers receive services like straight razor shaving.  For 51 years, the shop sat on Fry Street across from the University of North Texas. Two years ago, the shop relocated to downtown Denton, attracting more business.

The team at Geek on Wheels believes that the relationships they develop with their customers go together like a motherboard to a hard drive.

The company’s model is based on educating the consumer so they may be empowered by technology. Owner Reese Ormand said he looks at his customers as partners in business, who grow with the business.

Ormand is a Denton native and prefers providing services to locals whenever he can.

He says being a locally-owned business that also provides a great service is a winning combination.

Denton residents don’t mind revealing their dirty laundry when it comes to Comet Cleaners, which offers affordable prices and same-day pickup.

Comet Cleaners has been in business for 25 years, providing services for residents who might need a wedding dress cleaned, a suit pressed and a last-minute stain removed.

Owner Mark Kerr says he believes Denton residents appreciate that the company is locally owned and cares about their customers and the city. He says he wants his company to be part of keeping Denton beautiful inside and out.

Denton Florist continues to prove it’s the preferred florist in Denton, winning Denton’s best for the 12th year in a row.

Owner Christine Dear has been a florist for more than 25 years. She was a part-time employee at the shop while she was going to school and decided to buy the business when she was 22 years old after the previous owners decided to sell.  

Denton Florist has been in the community since the 1930s, and Dear has operated the business for more than 20 years, continuing to deepen Denton Florist’s roots in the community.

Salon LaPage celebrated its 10th anniversary April 10. Owner Daphne Arrington said she hopes residents voted her business as one of the Best of Denton because of the company’s efforts to earn its customers’ loyalty.

Arrington said her business is unique because it’s not simply an employee-driven business or a business that just turns looks. She said the business wants strong relationships with customers, and she believes loyalty is key to success.

Self-described as Denton’s hidden gem, the Wildwood Inn is a boutique hotel, unique wedding venue and 4-star hotel.

The hotel, owned by Keith and Sarah Walters, provides a romantic and intimate atmosphere perfect for a night out. The chefs provide high-quality food and the staff is professional and courteous. The inn has 14 guest rooms and space for indoor/outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions. The restaurant is open Thursday through Saturday.

A former mayor at the time, Oliver Perry Poe, was an advocate for the growth of the insurance sector in the city, recognizing its importance

M. L. Ramey King first got involved in 1920, and the name was changed in 1964 when Marvin Ramey and Terrell King purchased the interests from another partner.

Today the business is headed by Jeff and James King, carrying the family tradition of quality customer service and making sure customer needs are met.

Cooper says to maintain his high level of services, he has to show up each day and work hard, always looking to improve.
